Tasting notes

Colour: A deep cherry red.

Nose: An intensely aromatic bouquet combining concentrated perfumes of red and black fruits (cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants..).

Palate: Expressive, round and muscular with a beautiful aromatic intensity.. A fine balance is achieved between mellow tannins and a discreet acidity. Their solid structure and length make them excellent wines for laying down.

Ageing potential

In good conditions, this great wine will keep for 7 to 15 years.

Origins

Clos de Vougeot is and will always be much more than just a wine. This appellation is a the standard bearer, the emblem of the whole Côte d’ Or...

The measurements of this vineyard alone are enough to make it exceptional with over 50,59 ha of Grand Cru vines, including 49,13 ha exclusively dedicated to the Pinot Noir. The clos slopes up from the main road, extending up to the base of the butte. Altitude is of no great importance here, varying from 240 to 270 metres.

The upper part of the enclosure is made of a mixture of clay and brown gravel, then the middle part is also very stony on the surface. Finally, in the lower part, the soils are increasingly clayey and deep, giving the wines a firmer structure.

Vinification and maturing

Hand-picked, the grapes are sorted in the vineyard and then again in the winery on a table. The grapes are then 100% de-stemmed but not crushed, so they are placed whole in vats by gravity. Maceration lasts around three weeks, with regular punching down of the cap. No oenological products (such as yeasts, enzymes or tannins) are added, so as not to alter this precious terroir. The wine is aged for 15 months in barrels without racking and without new barrels.
