The name Antonin Rodet has been rhyming with Mercurey in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise since 1875, when the house was founded by Antoine Rodet, known as Antonin. The Clos Rodet, a 17th Century bourgeois mansion situated in the heart of the village, is embodying the House’s historical heart, cellar and values.
For decades, the visionary Rodet family did not hesitate to invest in one of the oldest terroirs in Burgundy and contributed to the business development of the House, brought the Rodet signature into international markets and enhanced its reputation to become a reference in Mercurey and far beyond the native region.

History

Antonin Rodet is the exclusive producer and distributor of the wines from the Château de Mercey. The vineyard of 48 hectares mainly surrounds the Château,
built in the 16th Century at the southern edge of the Côte de Beaune, but also extends in the Côte Chalonnaise.

Mercurey is a communal appellation located in the north of the Côte Chalonnaise and which name comes from the village of Mercurey. The vineyard
- mainly planted with Pinot Noir - covers a surface of 633 hectares, of which 169 are Premier Cru rated.

The word Mercurey clearly finds its origin in the roman era and is linked to the god Mercury patron of travelers and god of trade and abundance.

Our "Heritage" cuvée is a special blend of grapes harvested on different plots in the Mercurey appellation, offering a pleasure wine yet very structured.

Vinification and maturing

In order to respect the environment, the soil and the product, all our cultural practices include the use of integrated vinegrowing and winemaking techniques.
The winemaking starts with a cold maceration of about 20 days under controlled temperatures to obtain an intense ruby colour and powerful flavors. Then,
regular punching down coupled with pumping-over of the juice at the beginning of fermentation ensure richness and typical red fruit aromas from the Pinot Noir
grapes.

Finally, the juice is brought to 35-37 °C to enhance colour and aromas, bringing the necessary tannic structure for a red Burgundy wine.

The wine then aged for 12 months in oak barrels with a proportion of 30% new oak (that will soften the tannins and bring a woody side). 6 months before bottling, the wine [different plots of Mercurey] is blended in stainless steel tanks
