Grand Prieur

Origins of the cuvée

GRAND PRIEUR
Each cuvée reveals a chapter in the history of this prestigious site or its region.
The last Grand Prior of Bonpas took refuge in the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains in Gigondas. He passed on to the winegrowers the knowledge of the monks, from vine cultivation to wine-making.

Grape varietals

Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Vinification and maturing

Hand-picked, sorted and destemmed.
Traditional vinification with long, temperature-controlled macerations at 22° to 25°C.
Minimal intervention to reveal the natural qualities of the grapes and terroir.

Tasting notes

Intense garnet red

Opulent ripe black fruit. Rich aromatic bouquet, with complex layers of black olives and hints of licorice.

Smooth and velvety, with supple, indulgent tannins that add depth without overwhelming. The finish is gently sweet, beautifully balanced by a touch of freshness that keeps it lively and elegant.

Food and wine pairing

Open two hours before serving between 13-15°C/56-59°F with grilled red meats or red meats in sauce, game, leg of lamb or prime rib.

Appellation

The Gigondas appellation lies at the foot of the majestic Dentelles de Montmirail, around the village of Gigondas, in a wooded, unspoilt environment.
The site was a base for retired Roman soldiers, who gave it its name: “Jucunditas”, meaning joy and pleasure.
Thanks to its excellence, Gigondas was the first Côtes du Rhône Villages to be elevated to cru status in 1971. Today, it is one of the most prestigious appellations in the southern Rhône Valley.
For this wine, we have selected parcels of stony red clay alluvium located on slopes or vast terraces at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, offering ideal conditions for Grenache Noir. This wine is produced from grapes grown on certified High Environmental Value farms.
