GRANDE RESERVE DES CHALLIERES
Each cuvée reveals a chapter in the history of this prestigious site or its region.
‘Challières ’ refers to the old white stone walls from the Mont Ventoux Massif. These regional soft white stones from the Miocene period were also used to built the Orange triumphal arch and were used by farmers to build low walls or dry stone shelters.
Mainly Grenache Noir along with Syrah and Carignan.
Co-fermentation of different grape varieties. Physical extractions using devatting and pumping over techniques at the beginning of fermentation give way to the traditional Rhône Valley method, which consists of submerging the pomace cap at the end of fermentation. Temperature of fermentation is regulated at 24°C. The oxygen and the extraction technique at this temperature provide balance and elegance adding stewed red fruit, smooth tannins, and length.
Ageing: 100% in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness of the aromas and a smooth tannic structure.
Deep purple.
Highly expressive and charming, featuring ripe fruit aromas elegantly intertwined with delicate spice notes. Hints of strawberry and cherry add a touch of freshness and finesse to the ensemble.
Full-bodied and silky, with fleshy tannins and a refined structure. The whole evolves gracefully towards a firm, persistent finish, highlighted by expressive hints of thyme and garrigue.
Serve between 13-15°C/56-59°F. Its lively, fresh profile goes well with sautéed lamb with garlic, mushroom omelet or ripened cheese.
Certified in 1973, the Ventoux appellation is named after the Mount Ventoux mountain (1 912 m alt.), also called ‘the giant of Provence’ and famous around the world thanks to the cycling Tour de France. Classified as a ‘biosphere reserve’ by UNESCO in 1990, the Mont Ventoux site serves as a setting for terroirs worked with respect for nature and the cultural and historical heritage of the region.
The vineyard is grown on gentle slopes and covers around 50 villages and more than 7,500 Ha. The grapes benefit from one of the coolest micro-climates in the southern Rhône Valley, Influenced by altitude. The alternation of sunny days and cool nights produces fresh, well-balanced wines.
Our selection of vineyards includes Miocene safres (compressed sans) and large alluvial terraces favourable to produce fresh and very aromatic Grenache.
