Grape varietals
Beaujolais is only made with the Gamay variety.
Origins
The Beaujolais appellation begins in the north of the Rhône département and stretches up to a southern section of the Saône et Loire département. It covers the hillsides between the River Saône in the East and the Monts du Beaujolais in the West.
The main production area is located around the Villefranche sur Saône area, on a clay-chalky plateau and extends northwards over granite and schist.
Tasting notes
Colour: bright ruby red color.
Nose: fresh and lively with lots of fruit, especially fresh fruit, cherries, redcurrants and plums.well balanced wine, round, generous, fruity and very subtle.
Palate: a well balanced wine, round, generous, fruity and very subtle.
Food and wine pairing
Beaujolais is a "friendly" wine, to be appreciated at any time of the day, with picnics, before meals, or with cold meats and starters.
Serving suggestions
Beaujolais wines should never be served too warm, and certainly not at room temperature. This would make it impossible to distinguish their typically smooth and delicate fruit flavours. Serve at 11 to 12°C.
Ageing potential
Beaujolais should not normally be kept too long in the cellar since the typically youthful flavors will dwindle.
Keep this wine for up to 3 years.
Vinification and maturing
Grapes are not all crushed on arrival at the winery. In this way fermentation will occur within the grape's own skin. Pressing is carried out only after the initial fermenting in the vats. For this reason, harvesting by hand is often preferred to avoid damage to the individual grapes. Finally, to preserve the typical fruity flavour of Beaujolais wines, ageing in vats is preferable to ageing in wooden casks.
Vintage : 2016
It's been a long time since winegrowers had not had to bear a long hard way to give birth to a new vintage. During the months of April, May and June 2016, they suffered the dramatic consequences of freezing, hail falls, downy mildew attacks, fears of powdery mildew, etc. Many are those who suffered very hard from these vagaries of the weather, to the point of sometime wishing that year ends as soon as possible and doubt of the future. Finally, July and then August and September, with the full sun, made forget a little of the trouble and return the morale in the vineyard.
In Burgundy, during the harvest, the vines were green but a lot, however, hid under their foliage, a lack of grapes. Burgundy this year still produces a small crop, even very small for some names, especially Chablis.
But for saved vineyards and those who could enjoy a "push", the grapes were at the rendezvous, in good proportion. When the winemaker, this year of 2016, brought all the necessary care to this vine battered by successive storms and managed to bring the fruit to mature, so wines are of good quality. They are concentrated, with enough silky tannin, and have an acidic balance of good quality
It is therefore a year of "winegrower and winemaker", which will make a qualitative difference. This turbulence will not have been enough to begin our morale and we are proud to introduce you to the vintage 2016.
