Production area

Nestled between the two famed villages of Volnay and Meursault, Auxey-Duresses has only 150 ha of vines, which has always meant that this appellation has remained out of the limelight. Today, however, it offers some of the Côte’s best value for the money.

Origins

The vineyards of Auxey-Duresses is oriented South and Southeast. Altitude between 260 and 360 meters. The appellation is divided into two parts: one directly south of Meursault and the other toward St Romain, producing more mineral wines. The soils are clay-limestone, and the vines are between 40 and 50 years old.

Varietal

100% Chardonnay

Tasting notes

COLOR: Pale gold, clear and brilliant.
NOSE: Delicate aromas of yellow fruits, white flowers and hazelnuts.
PALATE: Fresh and balanced, with a noticeable but perfectly integrated woody presence.

Vinification and maturing

Hand-harvested on September 10, 2023, the grapes underwent a rapid start to alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Three-quarters of the way through fermentation, the wine was gravity-fed into oak barrels (30% to 40% of which were new) for 8 months' ageing on lees, without stirring. It then spent a further month in vats. After racking and blending in stainless steel tanks, light fining and gentle filtration were carried out before bottling in July 2024.

Food and wine pairing

When young, this wine holds nice surprises for lovers of baked fish, quenelles, and deli meats. When they are more mature, white Auxey is the perfect match for fish and poultry in cream sauce.
