CHARMES-CHAMBERTIN GRAND CRU

Production area

A large village at the beginning of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin has one of the biggest vineyard areas : no fewer than 402,72 hectares in production, 85,50 of which are Grand Cru. No fewer than 9 Grands Crus originate here, including Charmes-Chambertin (28,43 ha) and Mazoyères-Chambertin (1,82 ha), which can be grouped together under the name of Charmes-Chambertin.

Origins

This climat descends for some of its length towards the RN74 road: its location in the Côte is an exceptional one as a result of its thin, pebbly soil with a very high proportion of active limestone – a most propitious environment in which to produce fine wine.

Varietal

100% Pinot Noir

Tasting notes

COLOUR : Ruby, wine a fine sparkle.
NOSE : Intense and very expansive, with black berries.
PALATE : Fine, full texture with very unctuous tannins.

Vinification and maturing

The grapes are hand harvested, entirely destemmed and vatted by means of gravity. Maceration lasts around 3 weeks with more or less frequent cap trading “by foot”. The wine is matured for 15 months in casks (20% new wood).

Food and wine pairing

Perfect with game animals (grilled or in wine sauce), lamb, coq au vin, rib steack and cheeses like Epoisses, Langres or Munster.
