CÔTES DU RHÔNE
RESERVE DE BONPAS

Origins of the cuvée

RESERVE DE BONPAS
Each cuvée reveals a chapter in the history of this prestigious site or its region.
Chartreuse de Bonpas is a magnificent convent donated by Pope Jean XXII in 1318 to the cartesian monks in the neighbouring area to the old Pope’s Residence in Avignon. Our wine is named after this medieval monument as they share a rich history & heritage.

Grape varietals

Mainly Grenache Noir along with Syrah and Carignan.

Vinification and maturing

Co fermentation of the different grape varieties. Physical extractions using ‘rack and return’ techniques at the beginning of fermentation, give way to the traditional Rhône Valley method, which consists of submerging the pomace cap at the end of fermentation. This final maceration, conducted at 28°C, is comparable to an infusion. While respecting and preserving the aromas and flavours of stewed red fruit, it allows the wine to acquire velvety tannins and roundness. It also guarantees good length on the palate.
The cuvee is aged for 6 months in tank before bottling.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby-red.

Expressive, with notes of fresh red fruits.

A warm and juicy wine combining flavors of mild spices, black olives and stone fruits. Ample and supple, with velvety tannins.

Food and wine pairing

Serve between 13-15°C/56-59°F. It pairs with a wide range of food such as grilled meat, pasta dishes, cold cuts or soft cheese.

Appellation

The Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards are among the largest in France, stretching over 35,000 hectares from just south of Lyon all the way to Avignon. The vines thrive along the Rhône, rooted in rich and varied terroirs first cultivated by the Romans in 125 BC. In the 14th century, the papacy in Avignon was particularly fond of local wines. Winegrowing was one of the major activities, contributing to the economic influence of the Bonpas Charterhouse.
In 1737, a royal decree required barrels to be marked ‘C.D.R’.
The Côtes-du-Rhône AOC (Registered Designation of Origin) was one of the first AOC’s to be recognised in 1937

GEOGRAPHICAL INFLUENCES OF THE RHÔNE RIVER
Shaped by time, climate, and nature, the Rhône River has created a rich mix of soils across its valley. We select parcels in the southern Rhône valley, ideally exposed to the rising sun on clayey, stony soils - terroirs favourable to produce GRENACHE for a full-bodied, gourmet style wine.
