LUBERON
Légende de Bonpas

Origins of the cuvée

LEGENDE DE BONPAS
Each cuvée reveals a chapter in the history of this prestigious site or its region.
‘Légende de Bonpas’ - Bonpas’ legend - refers to the bee wall at the top of the monks’ kitchen garden.
The architecture, both rustic and skilful, takes the form of a retaining wall of 30 regular niches where the beehives were placed. This majestic apiary is the oldest known in the Luberon.

Grape varietals

vintage 2024 - Rolle, Grenache Blanc and  Ugni Blanc.

Vinification and maturing

The grape varieties were harvested in the early morning and were fermented separately to preserve their primary and typical aromas. Direct cold pressing, low-temperature fermentation. Our cuvée is built around Grenache blanc, which brings body and roundness to the wine, supporting the airy freshness of Rolle. Both Grenache blanc and Rolle are matured on lees to give volume and buttery notes to the final blend. The salinity of the Ugni Blanc complements and counterbalances the generosity of the Grenache.

Appellation

The Luberon vineyard sits in fabulous, natural surroundings, within the Luberon Regional Nature Park created in 1977. Vines are located on hillsides and mountainsides up to 450 meters above sea level. Since the creation of the appellation LUBERON in 1988, the winegrowers have been working closely with the Park to preserve this irreplaceable natural heritage for future generations. A mosaic of micro-climates, varied soils and mixed farming (fruit trees, wheat, olive trees) define and colour the landscape.

This mid-mountain vineyard, with its Mediterranean climate influenced by the Alps, enjoys cooler temperatures than the rest of the Rhône Valley. This partly explains the high proportion of white wines (over 20%) and their role in the PDO’s reputation.
During the ripening phase, the wide temperature range between day &  night has a beneficial influence on the balance of the wines.  It allows polyphenols to develop slowly, producing round, fresh & elegant wines .
