Grapes for this village appellation are harvested in 16 villages located in the French departments of Côte d'Or and Saône-et-Loire. Only red wines are produced for this appellation.
The terrain is unique here. A geological fault resulted in the sinking of the Saône River floodplain which thereby became separated from the Morvan Plateau, creating a hillside with very regular slopes that benefit from eastern and south-eastern exposure. The uniformity of the slopes and their exposure allow the vines to get an optimal amount of sunshine during the crucial months when the grapes are ripening.
